1) Contract Awarded for Hydrogen Demo Boat

HaveBlue LLC of Ventura, CA, has reached an agreement with Texaco Ovonic Hydrogen Systems to have the company provide the developmental metal hydride hydrogen storage system for HaveBlues XN-1 marine hydrogen fuel technology demonstration vessel. The first of its kind, the XN-1 will use hydrogen energy produced through renewable resources to deliver all required power and propulsion. HaveBlue says the XN-1 program is the first example of a critical early adapter market in the practical application of hydrogen as a transportation fuel.

HaveBlues patented propulsion and power generation system produces renewable hydrogen from purified sea water using clean energy power sources such as solar panels, wind generators and regenerative electric drive motors. The company has teamed with Catalina Yachts to build its first full-scale technology demonstrator. The XN-1 will complete testing and public demonstrations through 2004, with the goal of limited retail availability in 2005.

2) Dual Outboard Dumping Investigations Being Conducted

FOND DU LAC, Wis. The U.S. Department of Commerce has determined that Mercury Marine provided enough evidence of dumping practices by Japanese outboard-engine builders that it will begin an initial investigation. Yamaha, however, said that this doesnt imply a victory for Mercury Marine. Dumping occurs when a countrys industry sells products in the United States at prices significantly lower than in its own country. Mercurys petition, filed January 8, alleges that Japanese outboard-engine companies have engaged in illegal pricing activities in the U.S. for several years, and that they continue to do so.

ITC also investigating - The International Trade Commission (ITC) is also investigating the claims Mercury made in the petition it filed with the Commerce Department on January 8. It is trying to determine whether Mercury Marine was injured by the alleged dumping. The ITC gave Mercury Marine and Japanese engine builders a chance to present their respective sides during a hearing on Thursday.
